Group subsidiary business Mace Logistics Management (now MLogic) played a critical role in successfully switching the road system at Heathrow's Terminal 3 in advance of the airport's dramatic surge in numbers over the Easter period.
Mace Logistics completed the road network switchover within an extremely tight four hour window overnight on Wednesday 28th March. Failure to reopen the road network on scheudule would have resulted in a tailback on the M4 growing by a mile a minute during the morning rush hour.
The road network switch followed another Mace success at the airport when the construction management team completed the construction phase of T3 Futures in an impressive 99 days. Detailed planning by both teams ensured that construction on phase two could get underway the day after phase one was complete and that the airport's customers remained largely unaffected during the works.
BAA's Heathrow Airport construction director Robert Swann said on completion: "I am pleased to report that the team has made a fantastic effort over the weekend and the last few days. We have successfully commenced operations on the new forecourt layout this morning, in time for the surge in traffic as the schools break up for the Easter holidays".
Heathrow's CEO Tony Douglas and BAA CEO Stephen Nelson were also delighted with the seamless switchover.
Mace Logistics (MLogic) continues to provide logistics support on the project including temporary hoarding, security, access control, waste management, temporary electrics and plumbing, hoists, general plant, scaffolding and labour).
