Mace Plus scores four new commissions

01/04/2009

Mace Plus has secured four new projects with a combined construction value of £95m in the first quarter of 2009, defying the otherwise bleak economic outlook.

Two of the four new projects are for existing client Oxford University: the Oxford Molecular Pathology Institute (OMPI), a c. £20m research laboratory, and a £18m book depository that will house eight million books including the world famous Doomsday Book. The latter was deferred due to planning issues but with a new site secured in Swindon, the client has re-negotiated the contract with Mace Plus in order to hit the target completion date.

The third win is a £30m construction and refurbishment project for St. Paul’s School in south west London. Mace Plus won the project through a competitive tender process against three other companies and has been appointed as management and principal contractor on the basis of its previous education sector work. This is the first phase of five that will take five to seven years to complete at a total cost of £150m. Founded in 1534, St. Paul’s is the oldest private boys school in the country and was a key site in the planning of the D-Day landings.

The final project to note is the second stage conversion of Garth Hill College, a £30m one school pathfinder let under the IESE framework (formerly SECE). Converted to fixed price in February, the team moved to site in March and completion is scheduled for August 2010.
