Mace Plus has achieved practical completion to shell and core and Category A fit out on 95 Gresham Street for client Standard Life Investments, providing over 93,000 square feet of Grade A office space in the City of London.
The £35m project comprised the redevelopment of Princes House and Bartlett House behind an original Portland Stone retained façade, making way for seven floors of high-quality office space, four outdoor terraces, part retail, part office space at the ground floor and 62 cycle spaces at lower ground floor level.
The development, located within the heart of London's financial district, was designed to provide ten square metres of space for every person, which has resulted in open, light-filled offices provided by a glazed atrium roof.
The building has a Portland Stone retained façade. The electrical substation that had to be moved meant the Mace Plus team built the new steel structure in two phases. The windows to the façade are a combination of refurbished or new metal casements and new curtain walling has been constructed to the rear and atrium.
The roof features a part new and part reconstructed Portland stone and copper cupola to the corner of the building immediately facing London's Guild Hall.
Mace Plus was appointed in 2008 as a two-stage contractor to provide demolition and construction services. Project director Neil Scott said: " This was a very logistically demanding project because of its locality in a congested area. The project team, together with the tremendous cooperation of all stakeholders, has delivered an ultra modern office block behind a classic Portland stone façade in the heart of the City of London."
