Mace Plus gets green light for two new academies

Mace Plus has been given the green light by the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) for two new academies, the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, London and the Globe Academy in Southwark, London. Both academies are sponsored by Absolute Return for Kids (ARK).
The Evelyn Grace Academy's main works commenced on 5th January 2009 with a targeted completion date of 29th October 2010. The project includes the erection and subsequent removal of a temporary school with associated landscaping works whilst a permanent, four-storey building and sports hall facility is built. The professional team for this project includes architect Zaha Hadid, project manager Capita Symonds, employer's agent EC Harris, cost consultant Davis Langdon and structural engineer and building service consultant Arup.
Construction of the Globe Academy also got underway on 5th January 2009 with a targeted completion date of 24th December, 2010. The project requires the construction of a new three-storey secondary school building and single storey foundation-stage centre, the refurbishment of an existing grade two pentagon shaped building and grade two listed primary school building and the demolition of existing buildings situated on the site of the old Geoffrey Chaucer Technology College in Southwark. The Globe Academy will specialise in mathematics and drama. There are currently 700 students which will expand to 1,400 once the works have been completed.The professional team comprises architect Future Systems, client's project manager Capita Symonds and construction design management consultant Arup.
