Information

Mace Plus is proud to be delivering The Evelyn Grace Academy, a single, 4-storey building angled across the site with sports hall 'annexe'. This is just the latest in Mace Plus's growing portfolio of academies, including Mossbourne Community Academy, The Bridge Academy and St Mary Magdalene Academy among others.

The main body of the building is purposely set back from the street frontage to minimise the impact of the building on the streetscape and angled to provide ‘landscaped' open play spaces along the street front whilst providing varying oblique views of the building from the surrounding area.

The footprint has been limited to 18m in width to allow good levels of natural lighting and passive openable window ventilation to all rooms subject to their internal use and external noise levels.

Visual relief of the single building massing has been provided by breaking down the building into visually distinct elements conforming to the schools within schools organisation.

Typically the building has a central corridor with classrooms on either side. The overall width of the building varies with the cantilevers and setbacks but is based on a 18m (7.5m/3m/7.5m) grid arrangement.

The ground floor RC slab will be suspended between pile caps with an insitu reinforced concrete flat slab to the upper floors.

The upper level (level 3 to roof) is a steel structure supporting a metal deck to receive the roof covering.

The external envelope will be a mixture; using a ‘stick' curtain walling system, aluminium rainscreen and fair faced insitu concrete coupled with distinctive banding between schools.

Features:

  • Designed to create a set of schools within schools two middle (11-14) and two secondary (14 - 18)
  • State of the art new accommodation
  • 10.747sq metres of new build adjacent to listed residential houses and a conservation area
  • Sports facilities designed for out of hours community
