Information
Mace has been working with the Department of Health since the beginning of this year carrying out a review of the substance misuse services available to young offenders in the community and in the secure estate, how they are commissioned and provided and how services provided at each level relate to eachother.
This is a project Mace is carrying out for the Department of Health, Offender Health, together with the Youth Justice Board and the National Treatment Agency, relating to the treatment of substance misuse in young offenders in the criminal justice system.
There are clear pathways for young people who offend and have substance misuse issues based on all the available evidence and best practice which have been developed. For the secure estate and in the community, the Youth Justice Board and the National Treatment Agency have developed and published specifications for and guidance on the treatment of substance misuse in under 18s who are un the criminal justice system.
The purpose of this research is to review the treatment of substance misuse in young offenders across the criminal justice pathway in order to support future strategy on the through and aftercare of young offenders with identified substance misuse issues requiring intervention - including psychosocial as well as clinical management.
This commission involves comprehensive primary research with identified stakeholders throughout the entire under 18 secure estate and in the community. Findings and recommendations will be presented to the Department of Health led partnership board and in a report.
