Work commences on new NW&H College campus

24/05/2010

Mace's midlands team has celebrated breaking ground on North Warwickshire & Hinckley College's £12.8m new campus which is due to open in September 2011. Mace is project manager and CDM coordinator for the college.

The new facilities will provide a base for performing arts, media, graphic design and creative art courses, and will be located next to the Grade II listed Goddard Building and Unitarian church in the centre of Hinckley. The college has a number of unique and innovative design features including a split level design to accommodate the sloping site and remain in scale with surrounding buildings. The building will also have chameleon cladding that is designed to change colour depending on which angle and perspective you view the building.

Students from the college have been fully involved in the project at all levels with construction diploma students getting lessons on site, media students keeping a visual record of the process and the business students learning the art of project management from the Mace project team.

The college aims to obtain a BREEAM "excellent" rating for the new building and so far the team has hit all the milestone dates in the programme.

Mace project manager Tom Sampson said: "The project has been a really exciting one to be involved with and the new development will be great not only for the college but for the whole community in Hinckley."
