Queen opens completed Terminal 5 at Heathrow

Friday 14th March sees Queen Elizabeth II attend the grand opening of Heathrow's much anticipated Terminal 5. Mace Group is enormously proud to have been central to the delivery of the new terminal which is a massive achievement for the company's dedicated aviation team.
The Mace team worked closely with long-term client BAA and a multitude of subcontractors to ensure that despite the size and scale of the project, it was delivered on budget and on time. The Richard Rogers-designed building forms the centrepiece of the wider 260 hectare development which involved many challenges, including a six year public inquiry, a lengthy planning approval phase and the diversion of not one but two rivers.
The 21st century terminal incorporates state of the art check-in technology and modern shopping facilities, expanding Heathrow's capacity by over 30 million passengers per year.
For Mace, Terminal 5 also presented great opportunities for our social inclusion programme and the team was able to help many local people back into work in varied roles on this huge construction project.
