Mace Plus meets environmental standards

07/09/2009

Mace Plus has achieved environmental accreditation to the BS EN ISO 14001:2004 standard, meeting one of its principal targets for 2009.

Following an initial assessment in May 2009, BSi auditors undertook the final two-day assessment in August during which all business systems and processes, both in the office and on site, were thoroughly checked and the auditors were able to recommend Mace Plus for certification to the environmental standard.

Mace Plus managing director Mark Castle said: "Mace Plus takes its
environmental commitments very seriously and our ISO accreditation
underpins and recognises that commitment. Well done to everyone in
helping us to achieve this milestone."

In order to fully assess Mace Plus operations in all sectors, the auditors visited three project sites: Garth Hill School, Teddington School and Grafton Street, a commercial sector project for client Hevaf Grafton Ltd. The auditors were impressed by the high standard of site management, controls and housekeeping and highlighted a number of good practices observed during the site tours. The feedback was well received by the Mace Plus teams as recognition of the efforts made to effectively manage its impact on the environment.

Mace Plus director Terry Spraggett said: "We have a straightforward approach and have worked hard to develop practical and easy to use procedures. We were delighted at the auditors comments, especially regarding the first class competency of our people - this is a testament to the environmental training that all Mace Plus staff have now completed. This success is down to the teams based on sites and in the office - without everyone's contribution we would not have received such great results. Particular thanks are due to those that participated to the audit: Robin Norman, Harish Raghwani, John Fraser, Paul Coomber, Andrew Wilson and Ruksana Shellito."

ESH director John Knight added: "We are aware of the capability our teams have for delivery to the high standards set by Mace Plus, however it is always reassuring when we receive external recognition for those efforts. As well as my congratulations to the Mace Plus project teams, my personal thanks go to Angeliki Vlachogianni and Andy Booth for their hard work to ensure the business was ready for certification. Not only will the accreditation allow us to drive continuous improvement at project level, it demonstrates our performance capabilities in a highly competitive market."
